A still-life photograph that raises questions regarding reality and representation, origin and copy.
Shot in a public space—a stairwell or corridor—the photograph features a decorated vase with a large rose on the floor, holding a lush bouquet of roses in red and orange tones. Hanging on the wall behind it is a photograph of a vase filled with a vibrant arrangement of flowers.
In the inner photograph, the vase rests on a round stone pedestal, accompanied by three apples and fallen petals. Reminiscent of classical still-life paintings, the apples and wilting flower serve as traditional *vanitas* motifs. This entire scene is set against the backdrop of a forest edge and blooming flora.
Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the framed photograph is actually an assembled, glued, and photographed puzzle.
